Things to Do

As your heading up north, whether it be for a day trip or an over night stay or even if your heading as far as Cooktown and beyond you’ll need too travel through one of the most unique rainforests which is right here in the Cow Bay and Diwan area. Lets take you on a journey that will stay in your memory for ever. First you’ll encounter a river crossing on the Daintree river ferry, where you’ll pay a fee of $22.00 return or $11.00 one way, you’ll then be ushered on to the ferry by one of the friendly traffic controllers. Now just sit back and relax and enjoy the trip across the ferry which will be the start of a wonderful day exploring this magnificent lush rainforest. Off the ferry on your way up the range you’ll come across a spectacular look out called Alexander look out, there you’ll see where the ocean meets the Daintree river. look out
Next you will travel pass the Discovery Centre, turn off on your right where you can spend some time discovering the Rainforest on a Aerial Board walk and Canopy Tower. This multi award winning attraction is a world class interpretive facility nestled in the heart of the Daintree Rainforest, 10kms north of the Daintree River ferry. The Centre provides a wonderful introduction to this World Heritage listed part of the Rainforest and is a ‘must see’ for anyone visiting the area. The Canopy Tower, at 23m high, provides an insight into the surrounding Rainforest – from the forest floor to the upper most reaches of the canopy. The Aerial Walkway provides a ‘living link’ to the mid-level rainforest and allows wheel chair access to the base of the Tower and the Interpretive Display Centre. Guided Eco Tours are available or can be independent or undertaken using an audio guide. The self guided audio tours now feature an indigenous section that tells the story of the traditional owners – interesting information of how the traditional local Aboriginal people made good use of the plants, animals and natural features of the rainforest. Open daily 8.30am – 5pm. While in this area you may like to go for a walk around the Jindalba board walk. The Daintree Discovery Centre
